CAG to audit ModiCare, PM Kisan schemes | India News

NEW DELHI: In order to test the efficacy of the NDA government’s various cash transfer and welfare schemes, the comptroller and auditor general has broadened its audit plan for 2020-21 by including various centrally-sponsored schemes and a review of the devolution of funds for local bodies under the 74th Constitutional Amendment Act.
The CAG has taken up the audit of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana under which Rs 75,000 crore has already been transferred to about 8.5 crore marginal farmers since December 2018. The auditor has also taken up PM Jan Aarogya Yojana or Ayshman Bharat schemes, beside the Har Ghar Bijli Yojana, for performance audit.
Thousands of crores have been spent under these schemes in the past few years and a performance audit of each of these schemes would test not only the efficiency of the NDA government’s direct cash transfer schemes but would also help in an independent evaluation of its impact on the society.
