Bangalore’s Dynamatic to make all doors for Airbus A220; biggest aviation export contract for an Indian company

NEW DELHI: Bengaluru-based Dynamatic Technologies will make all doors for the Airbus A220, in a big boost to the “make in India” programme. Union aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia says this is “one of the single-largest export contracts for an Indian aerospace manufacturing company.” While Airbus India head Rémi Maillard did not disclose the size of this order, he said this keeps the aerospace major on track of doubling its export from India to $1.5 billion very soon from current annual $750 million.
Scindia said: “Indian aerospace manufacturing is scaling new heights. This is a proud moment for all as Airbus and Dynamatic Technologies join hands to manufacture all door variants in the next-gen Airbus A220 family of aircraft in India. This is one of the single-largest export contracts for an Indian aerospace manufacturing company… will go a long way in bringing the complete aircraft door making technology to the Indian aerospace ecosystem.”
Maillard said: “Airbus continues to walk the talk on ‘make in India’. This contract with our trusted partner Dynamatic is a step change in aerospace manufacturing in India because this work package will involve complex system integration that will bring new capabilities to the Indian ecosystem. Airbus will continue to act as a special catalyst to holistically develop the Indian aerospace ecosystem, from manufacturing and assembly to design and development as well as maintenance and skilling.”
To be sure, leading Indian companies like HAL and Tatas have been assembling aircraft components like doors for years. Last year, Airbus had given the contract for the manufacturing of bulk and cargo doors of the A320 Family to Tata Advanced Systems Ltd.
The latest contract will support the ramp-up of the A220 programme by creating additional capacity to the currently existing source. Under the agreement, Dynamatic will manufacture and assemble the cargo, passenger and service doors along with the over-wing emergency exit doors for the A220 family aircraft (eight doors per aircraft).
Dynamatic already manufactures the flap track beam of the Airbus A330 and A320 family aircraft as well as the cockpit escape hatch door of the A220. Airbus is building two final assembly lines — one for the C295 military aircraft in Vadodara and the second one for the H125 helicopter. Every Airbus commercial aircraft has components and technologies made in India.
